Notes on Spectrum Analysers. Spectrum Analysers are instruments meant for measuring the amplitudes and frequencies across the frequency spectrum from low frequencies to the RF Higher frequencies. They can have Tracking Generators and Marker frequencies as well as other features to assist the operator in performing the tests. Spectrum Analysers can be used to measure the power output from an unknown source, but detected at the point of test, and compared to known sources for informed results. If used with directional antennas, they can be very effective at detecting sources of RF such as in the case of jamming car locking mechanisms by thieves.
