Notes on Electrostatic Field Testers. An electrostatic charge is the potential electrical energy between 2 objects and can be measured in kV or Coulombs and is produced by static electric charges. The electrostatic charge is based on positively and negatively charged ions. This can be experienced on a dry winter day when a person walks on a synthetic carpet with well insulated shoes, and then get a sudden shock when touching a metal object or another person, where the dicharge of static electricity occurs. It an also be experienced by rubbing a plastic comb, and then bring it close to a persons hair making the hair attract to the comb. These Testers can now measure the static voltage between the two charged bodies.
