Images and image series can be interpreted a many ways: Individually when a single image is examined and information is gained from that image alone. Contra-laterally when images of similar body parts from the both sides of the body are compared visually and/or statistically. Comparatively when images from two chronologically different studies in time are examined and compared. Comparative studies could also involve the above two methods. |

Single Image Interpretation. |
|
Thermal Images on their own can only yield very limited data, but can demonstrate certain conditions clearly and reliably. Some of the most applicable conditions that can be seen are those of vascular inflammation, especially in the limbs. Although vascular patterns can also be seen in the breasts, all breast imaging should be both comparative and contra-lateral to be of a true clinical nature. In both of these images below, one can see the distinct inflammation patterns around the varicose veins in the legs. In the left image, the vein was not visible, requiring specialised medical assessment to find and treat. The right image shows a vein that was mostly visible to the surface. From these images it is easy to show how reliably the body shows inflammation in a thermogram, and can be seen below. |

Contra-lateral Interpretation. |
|
Contra-lateral comparison is when one side is compared to the other as an egsample, the outside left and outside right thigh. Another example of this would be the soles of the feet or in looking at a womans breast study. This comparison method is useful in identifying some neurological conditions, complex inflammations and some other potential disease sites in specific tissues. In the two mages below, it can be seen how the left hand is much cooler than the right, indicating a significant nerve irritation. In the lower of these 2 images, it can be seen that this woman’s left buttock shows an irritation on the L5 and S1 nerves, with a similar asymmetry showing in her left foot (indicating and confirming an irritation in the same nerves. |

Comparative Interpretation. |
|
This is an area where there are at least 2 studies (series of images) are taken, with a reasonable period of time between the two studies or more. The similar images of the two or more studies are then analysed and the differences or changes between the images are compared and identified. This is the method that is most suited in identifying slow physiological processes like the developing blood supply leading to a tumour. It could be used in assessing a person's response to a particular treatment like chemotherapy for a breast tumour, or just establishing what the normal is for that particular person. As soon as a stable thermal signature is established, any small alteration to the patterns can quickly be seen, and further anatomical investigation initiated. This is how Thermal Breast Imaging is performed. In the series below, the same woman was imaged three times, with the top image just before she started chemotherapy for a tumour in the left breast. The next 2 show inprovement as her chemotherapy treatment progressed. After viewing this series, her oncologist specialist was able to determine that the treatment that he had her on was effectively addressing her problem. |
